Annual Eye Exams

It is often said you can see a dog’s soul through their eyes. Our doctors make eye health a priority during your dogs annual exam. During an eye examination, your veterinarian will take a multifaceted approach to evaluate the health of your dog’s eyes.. First, they will observe how your dog views its environment and spatial awareness. Next, your veterinarian will use a tool called an otoscope to examine your dog’s eyes.The exam will also include an evaluation of the outer surfaces of the eyes.

Evaluating Your Dog’s Eyes For Potential Problems

If an issue is suspected by you or your veterinarian, it may be necessary to further examine their eyes with other diagnostic measures. Our doctors are able to diagnose problems with your dogs eyes including:

• Cataracts
• Cherry eye
• Conjunctivitis, or an infection of the eye(s)
• Corneal Abrasion
• Corneal Ulcer
• Entropion / Ectropion
• Glaucoma
• Insufficient tear production

Our doctors are thoroughly educated on treating the above eye conditions. On a rare occasion your dog’s eye condition might require more specialized care; we work with several board-certified veterinary ophthalmologists in the area and are able to make appropriate referrals when necessary.
