A few times a year, we like to feature a story about one of our amazing staff members. Kim has been a loyal employee here at Yorkshire Veterinary Hospital for almost eleven years. She is our Head Technician and oversees all of the medical procedures in the back. Kim is a very special person. Not only is she a valuable member of our management and technical staff, she earned a specialty degree in dentistry and received the Colorado Veterinary Medical Association’s prestigious technician of the year award. An award granted to technicians for their superior performance in the veterinary field, as well as for their dedication to the community.
After a long work week here at the hospital, Kim volunteers her time for many organizations. She has a soft spot for horses and recently began volunteer work for Mello Memories. Mello Memories uses miniature horses to provide equine assisted activities and therapy. This program helps individuals with disabilities to find encouragement, support, empowerment, unconditional love, and happiness. The miniature horses provide companionship similar to the bond between pets and their humans. A short visit from Mello Memories can make a long-lasting, positive impression on someone’s life.
Mello Memories began in December of 2008 by Ginny Mills. Mello Memories makes visits to schools, facilities, elderly care centers, and places for individuals with special needs. These loving creatures bring an immeasurable amount of joy to a group of people that inspire us. Yorkshire Veterinary Hospital wants to support Kim’s passion for this organization by spreading the word through social media. Mello Memories is always looking for volunteers and donations, so please find them on their website or Facebook to learn more about this wonderful organization. Mello Memories will be having an ice cream social fundraiser on September 17th, 2016 from 1pm to 4pm. This would be a great opportunity for anyone who is interested to check out their organization.
